Day 29

Day 29

SO Day 28 disappeared into the ether, lost in a lovely haze of sunshine and pool fun. Since we have precious little time left we wanted to do something special so we booked tickets to head over to Taboga Island. Taboga Island, aka Island of the Flowers, is a volcanic island about 20 km off the coast of Panama City. The ferry itself is a bit of an experience. Its a 30 minute ride through the queue of ships in line to be processed through the canal.

It was quite astonishing to see so many large boats in one place. I have a very cool video that wouldn’t load so you will have to take my word for it. Our little ferry was completely dwarfed in a physical manifestation of Earth’s place in the Universe.

Lots of cute little islands en route as well but seagull rock reminded me a bit of home so it managed to get a spot on the blog.

Taboga Island was wonderful, I highly recommend it as a day trip or a destination. We made straight for the beach, which sadly was not sandy. There were a lot of broken shells but no jelly fish! Let the bells ring out! I finally had a nice long ocean swim with no painful stings.

Clearly we found the bar. Phil went with the boring beer stand by but I was thrilled to discover that they make Pina Coladas the correct way with coconut milk and pineapple juice fresh from the pineapple. Imagine me on the beach with a Pina Colada and that wonderful goddess massaging my feet. If you are thinking paradise then you are spot on.

For lunch we took a cart to a restaurant that was a double for the café Cal and I dream of opening some day. There were cats galore and the atmosphere was chill with warm ocean breezes. They even had the veggie burger Cal has been dreaming of.

We were back to the beach for more chill and snorkel before boarding the ferry home. The trip back was bittersweet, I lost my hat and the day was done. But I got a new hat and we have one more day of relaxing by the pool tomorrow.
